ROBERTS Mr. Roberts, 79, of Houtzdale RD 1, formerly of 1404 Blair Ave., Tyrone, died at 3:56 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7,1993, at Philipsburg Area hospital, following an extended illness. Mr. Roberts retired as a freight conductor from Conrail in 1976, after 35 years of service in the Middle Division and the Altoona Yards. He was born July 17, 1914, in Smokerun, the son of Daniel and Catherine (Lewis)Roberts. He was twice married, first to Gladys I. Bateman on Jan. 23, 1937, in Altoona. She died Jan. 9,1967. Then he married Rena Sinclair on June 15, 1968.Surviving are his wife, two sons: R. Gerald Jr. of Tyrone and WilliamL. of Sparta, N.J., and two grandchildren. Also surviving are five brothers and sisters: Marie Bryan of Forrestville, Md., William of Orlando, Fla., Lee of Erie, Betty Fasick of Tyrone, and Dana Evans of Ocean City, Md.,Mr. Roberts was a 65-year member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Tyrone, where he was a member emeritus of the administrative council, a member of the Men’s bible Class and Methodist Men and a former member of the board of trustees. He was also a member of the Tyrone F&AM, Jaffa Shrine, Altoona Consistory, Tyrone Shrine Club, Tyrone Sportsmen’s Association, United Transportation Workers Union. Mr. Roberts was a 1933 graduate of Tyrone High School. Friends will be received from 2 t 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Tyrone. ROBERTS – Services for Raymond G. Roberts of Houtzdale RD 1, formerly of 1404 Blair Ave., Tyrone, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone, by Pastor Charies A. Fitzgerald and Pastor David Merkel, Internment at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or to the Primitive Methodist Church of Houtzdale, Box 229, RR1 Houtzdale, Pa. 16651. Surviving are two grandchildren: Greg and Gwen Roberts. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Allison.
