On June 11, 1884, he was united in marriage to Emma C. Barger, of this place. To this union, eight children were born. When Mr. Shipley first came to Clearfield, he was engaged in the nursery business, but later took up painting and papering, which he followed until the time of his death, which was due to cancer of the stomach, from which he had been ailing over a year. He was a man of a very rugged constitution having served as a soldier the full time of the Civil war, a man of good character, a genial disposition and an upright citizen and one who had a host of friends. He leaves to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father, a widow and the following children: Mrs. J. A. Ritter, of Madera; Mrs. S. J. Mann, of Clearfield; Frank, Clark and Earl, at home; Lewis, William and Ella having preceded him to the grave. The funeral was held from his late home on Nichols street on Sunday, Feb. 21, undertaker Leavy having charge of the funeral. Revs. Salter and Hummel officiating. The pallbearers were Messrs. Austin Haney, Miles Zimmerman, Jacob Shimmel, McClellan Rowles, William Boyce and Woodward Wyrant. Additional Comments: Mr. Michaels. I'm not sure if I sent this obit or not. I looked in the PaUSGenWebArchives, but I couldn't find it, so I am resending it. Thanx for putting all of these obits into the archives for me.
