Stephenson, 74, of Clearfield, PA died August 30, 2005 at her home. Born June 19, 1931 in Clearfield she was the daughter of W. Lisle and Virginia (Dutra) Stephenson. Miss Stephenson was a former classroom teacher and secondary guidance counselor in the Clearfield Area School District. She gained a BS in education from the Lock Haven State Teachers College in 1953. She furthered her English education degree at the Pennsylvania State University, and received a masters in education for secondary counseling in 1967 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She belonged to all of the professional associations in her teaching and counseling areas. After her retirement, she continued working part-time in the educational field by teaching some Adult Basic Educational classes from 1988 through June of 1996. From June 1997 to July 1999, she served as chief tester of the General Education Degree tests in the Clearfield County Area. Her interests outside of the educational fields included volunteer work for various community activities. She was a founding member and served on the board of directors of Clearfield County Historical Society. Among her favorite charities are the American Cancer Society's local chapter at 119 Market Street. The deceased is survived by a brother James Stephenson of Clearfield, seven nieces and three nephews. She is also survived by many cousins, one with whom she grew up, Rebecca (Collier) Hansen. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother William L. Stephenson, an uncle Richard Dutra and her aunt Iona Dutra, who helped rear her. A memorial service will be held at The Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., Clearfield on Sunday, September 4, 2005 at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. J. Timothy Hoover officiating. Interment will be private at Crown Crest Memorial Park. The family suggest that contributions be made to charity of donor's choice.
