M. shabodeho@aol.com October 23, 2009, 8:13 pm Published in The Progress, Clearfield, Pa., on 5/7/1957 Fred C. Strickland FRED C. STRICKLAND CUMBERLAND, Md.-A native of Curwensville, Fred C. Strickland, 71, and a resident of Cumberland, died Sunday, May 5, at 3:30 p.m. in the St. Petersburg Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla., where he had been a patient since March 17. He was born at Curwensville, December 23, 1886, a son of the late George and Alvaretta (Thompson) Strickland. Prior to his retirement a few years ago, he was general manager for the Union Mining Fire Brick Company at Grantsville, Maryland. He formerly was in charge of brick plants at Renovo, Barrett and Mount Union, Pa. Mr. Strickland was a life member of the Renovo Elks Lodge. He was twice married. To his first wife, the former Mamie Woods of Grampian, who died January, 1919, six children were born. Following his first wife's death, he married the former Anne Healey of Renovo, who died in April, 1955. Surviving are five children, Frank, Jacksonville, Fla.; William, Buffalo, N. Y.; Mrs. Ethel McNail, St. Louis, Mo.; Frederick, Hudson, Ohio; and Mrs. Arlene Johnsonbaugh, Tyrone, Pa.; 10 grandchildren, and two sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Ellie Houpt, Walter Strickland and Mrs. Mannie Traister, all of Curwensville; Roy Strickland, Wellston, Mich.; and George Strickland, Canton, Ohio. Funeral services will be held from the Hardage and Son Funeral Home, Jacksonville, Fla., Thursday, May 9, at 2 p. m. Burial will be made in the Jacksonville Cemetery.
