Miss Violet Swift, daughter of Joseph Swift and wife, of Philipsburg was drowned at Niagara Falls Tuesday evening. Miss Bella Swift, a sister of the dead girl, who is a teacher in the Philipsburg schools, was on a visit to Miss Violet. The two girls and a young man went canoeing on a branch of the river. The swell from a passing motor boat upset the canoe and the entire party were thrown into the water. The young man with Miss Bella were rescued, but Miss Violet sank beneath the water and her body was not recovered until Wednesday morning. Violet Swift was born in Philipsburg, October 15, 1885, graduating from the public schools of that town in 1902, and had been teaching school in Niagara Falls for about a year. The body of the unfortunate young lady will be brought to her parents home today. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 1.5 Kb
