Mr. Taylor was a landmark of this valley, having been a prominent citizen for over 50 years. He was well and familiarly known by all the residents of this county, and many are the pleasing incidents told of him. He was a typical country fiddler, furnishing music for dances and other entertainments for miles around. His early life was among a class who were given to drinking, but he was a total abstainer himself, and this together with his freedom from all bodily ailments had probably more to do with his long and active life than anything else. About six years ago his wife died and from that time on Mr. Taylor seemed to be broken in spirit. He never seemed to care to play the violin so dear to his heart and saying he would never draw the bow again, he kept his word. Since the death of his wife, he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Frank Ballerson. At the time of his death, he was vigorous and lively and often walked ten miles in one day.
