She had been enjoying her usual good health up to Tuesday evening, and at the time she was stricken down was engaged in conversation with her husband and several of her children, who had come in during the evening. Her death was due to paralysis of the brain. She was uncoscious from the time she was stricken until death came, although all was done, that medical skill could do, to revive her, but of no avail. Her death was calm and peaceful. Mrs. Thorn's maiden name was Lawhead. She was born near Milesburg, Centre County, January 25th, 1827, and was in her 65th year at the time of her death. She was married in 1845 to her surviving husband and together they have resided in Clearfield since that time, bearing each others joys and sorrows and laboring together for the maintenance of a good home, which they gained by honest toil, and together reared a large family of children, of whom nine, survive her, viz: Dr. Ai, of Kylertown, Ashley, Warren, Frank, Boyd, Mrs. Noel B. Lee, and Mrs Joshua Flaharty, of Clearfield, Charles of Bell township, and Dr. Paul D., of Irwin, Pa. Mrs Hannah Gulich, Mrs Wilson Hoover, Nathan and Zebedee Lawhead are her surviving brothers and sisters. Mrs. Thorn represented the highest type of womanhood, and her life exemplified all that pertains to the true mother and wife. She was charitable, kind, and affectionate, and her deeds will live after her. Her aged husband and family have the sympathy of the people in this sudden and sad affliction. The funeral took place from her late residence on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. J.W. Henderson, of the Luthern church, officiating. Additional Comments: Elizabeth was the daughter of Nathan and Catharine Ludwig Lawhead, who came to Clearfield County about 1833 after coming from Lancaster County, and living in Centre County for a number of years.
