I give, devise and bequeath to my son Nathaniel Shepherd all that certain piece or parcel of land situate in the township of Burnside, County of Clearfield and State of Pennsylvania, bounded on the north by lands of John Yingling, on the east by lands of Hudson Oaks, on the south by lands of Adam Beck and Peter Beck and on the west by lands of John Yingling containing 100 acres more or less and known as my homestead property,- Said land to be valued at the price or sum of two thousand five hundred dollars, which said sum my son Nathaniel shall pay to my heirs in payments as follows, viz. one third in one year after my decease, one third in two years and the remaining one third in three years after my decease. I hereby direct that the twelve acre lot of land situate in the township of Burnside aforesaid and joining lands of A.C. Brilhart, Emily Shepherd, Thomas M. Shepherd and John Mahaffey shall by my executors hereinafter mentioned be sold to the highest and best bidder at public sale after due public notice and within one year from the time of my decease. I also hereby direct that the sum of one hundred dollars be left in the hands of the purchaser of said twelve acre lot until my grandson George Shepherd (son of my son Thomas M. Shepherd) shall arrive at the age of twenty one years, which said sum shall remain charged upon said land as lien, and the deed is the purchaser shall contain a condition creating said lien, and which said sum of one hundred dollars together with lawful interest thereon from the date of purchase shall be paid to my grandson George Shepherd aforesaid, on the day that he becomes twenty years of age. I further direct that in case of the death of said George Shepherd before attaining his majority the purchaser aforesaid shall pay the said sum and interest within one year from the decease of said George Shepherd to my heirs to be divided among them in the same proportion as hereinafter directed for the balance of my estate. I give and bequeath to my son Thomas M. Shepherd the sum of one dollar- he having received his share in my life time. I give and bequeath to my son John Shepherd the sum of one hundred dollars without any further share in the distribution of my estate. I give and bequeath to my wife Mary Ann Shepherd the sum of twenty dollars, which together with my promissory note for the sum of three hundred dollars shall be in lieu of any and all thirds of dower and any interest which she might otherwise have in my estate. I give, devise and bequeath to my sons and daughters, vis. Mary Ester Mahood, Amelia Shepherd Beck, Margaret Ann McKee, Benjamin F. Shepherd, Samuel B. McClellan Shepherd and Crissie Ellen Shepherd all the rest and residue of my estate-to-be equally divided among them-share and share alike. I hereby constitute and appoint Samuel Breth and Willis J. Nugent or either of them to be the executors of my last will and testament. Witness my hand and seal at Burnside Township this the twenty second day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty one. Shepherd, Medal of Honor winner in the Spanish American War who was born in Burnside Township, Clearfield County.
