FREEZE attorney at law in Bloomsburg, Columbia County, Pa. a native of Lycoming County, Pa. born Nov. 4,1825. The son of James and Frances (Gosse) Freeze. The Freezes were from New Jersey, and the grandfather Peter Freeze with his wife and family settled in Northumberland County, Pa., a short time after the revolution, which he served as a soldier in what was known as the Jersey Line. He was a farmer and lived and died in Tuckahoe. His son James was a miller by trade carried on the business for 75 yrs. Both are buried in Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg, Columbia County, Pa. Col. Freeze obtained his education at the Danville Academy, Montour County, Pa. and by private tutors, and acquired good classical training . He began reading law in 1846 with Joshua W. Comly, Esq. of Danville, Pa. He was admitted to the bar April 19,1848 at Bloomsburg, Columbia County, Pa. He served as register and recorder of Columbia County from 1863 to 1969 and was a member of the constitutional convention in 1872, but resigned in favor of Hon. C.R. Buckalew. He was known as Col. Freeze, a title he got through being appointed to Gen. Bigler's staff on which he served with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Col. Freeze was married in 1854 to Margaret Walker of Lancaster County, Pa. the daughter of Robert Walker of Lancaster County, Pa. Col. Freeze and his wife had five children .
