Brown buwbrown@comcast.net August 20, 2008, 5:53 pm Bloom. Station, Oct. 30, 1870. Dear Sisters Carrie and Sarah, I made a flying visit to falls yesterday. The man who occupies the farm has not worked out any of the rent, so I told them that we would take it all in cash, as Mr. Dersheimer thinks we had better sell the farm and it will sell for as much if the rent is not worked out on it. Mr. Dersheimer has had an offer of $2000.00 for it and $1000.00 down. I think it ought to bring $2200.00 and if you think best to sell will do my best to get that. If you wish to sell please let me know immediately. And another thing I wish you would let me know is if you will lend me what money you do not need after it is sold, if I will secure you on my house and lot in Scranton. My property there is worth $1600.00 at the lowest figures, and I hold a clear title for it. The reason of this is that I wish to leave here and go into business at Pittstown with Mr. Baumgardner, if we can make the arrangements. He has a good business there now with a poor pardner, and I think we could improve it. I wish to leave here because I am to closely confined to the desk and I feel that I cannot stand it and I have to much responsibility for the amount of pay I get. I have had money stolen, to quite an amount. This I will get back but I got my accounts mixed by the means so that I should lose some money, how much I do not know yet, and if I can make arrangements to suit me I should quit the business. I would sell my property in Scranton but my Agent there has just rented it for one year and I will not sell to good advantage now for that reason and the longer I can hold it the more money it will be worth. Both of you please answer as soon as possible. Carrie if you have any plans of your own in regard to your money do not change them on my account as I can probably raise the money somewhere else if you need yours, and if you need Sarah's also why just say so and it wll be all right. I write you this because if it is in the market I wish to be the first bidder. We are all well. Bessie is growing fine. Creeps all over is into everything. The boys grow larger, stronger and make more noise every day. This is a bad place for them is one reason I wish to get away. Tean is well but is bound to scrub and clean herself to death. Mrs. E. Dersheimer looks as young as ever. Oscar is at Princeton Colage. George is a great tall fellow and Edmund is Emanual right over again. You have no idea how fleshy Anie Dersheimer is she is nearly as large as Roxey Swartz. They have a new school house nearly done. It is in the woods near where Lim Syler (?) used to live. Amos Beamer is keeping store at the Falls again. Yours, W.O. Holmes P.S. Sarah please let me know how old you are. It will make no difference about the sale but I would like to know.
