Brown buwbrown@comcast.net August 21, 2008, 12:44 pm Dear Sister Carrie, Your letter of 16 is just at hand. I learned by Sarah's letter that you was sick and was thinking of writing to see how you was. I am glad you are able to write. I think you will come out all right. There is a large amount of vitality in the Holmes stock. I was at Honesdale last week looking after a steam job. I thought of coming over to see you while I was in Scranton but it takes so much time to get from Scranton to Honesdale I could not do so. I saw Square Brush in Wilksbarre week before last. He told me of James Decker's death, also that they found no bill against Joney Hand. Parties in Scranton who should know told me Johny is not as bad as they try to make out he is. Tenn and the children start for Pittston Wensday. They will come to see you if there is any way to get there. It is so hard to get any place after you leave the R.R. She thinks she will stay with her mother untill Monday. We got the Sunbury contract and have one or two other small jobs. Rollins is in N.Y. now. Remember me to Dewey. Your Bro, W.O. Holmes Additional Comments: This letter (and the one of June 19, 1877)were written on business stationery whose letterhead reads as follows: Rollins & Holmes, Plumbers, Gas and Steamfitters, Manufacturers of Galvanized Iron Cornice, tin, sheet iron and copper ware, wire trellises, cloth awnings, etc. E.K.
