D. one thousand eight hundred and ninety-three personally appeared before me a justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid Amanda Greager aged 43 years, who, being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain the Pension provided by Acts of Congress granting pension to widows: That she is the widow of Peter Greager, who enlisted under the name of Peter Greager at _____, on the 11th day of February A. D. 1864 in Co. “G 7th Pa. Vol. Cav. in the war of Rebellion who __________ on the 14th day of July A. D. 1893, who bore at the time of his death the rank of _____ in _____ that she was married under the name of Amanda Herter to said Peter Greager on the 17th day of March A. D. 1867 by Rev. E. S. Henry at Donaldson, Pa. there being no legal barrier to such marriage; that neither she nor her husband had been previously married ______ that she has to present date remained his widow: that the following are the names and dates of birth of all his legitimate children yet surviving who were under sixteen years of age at father’s death, viz: Lottie (daughter) of soldier by claimant, born Mar. 22nd 1879, Herbert (son) of soldier by do. born July 22nd 1883, Arthur (son) of soldier by do. born Dec. 2nd 1888, That she has not abandoned the support of any one of her children, but that they are still under her care or maintenance. ___________ that she has not in any manner engaged in, or aided or abetted the rebellion in the United States; that no prior application has been filed; that she hereby appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation, W. W. Heffner of Centralia, Pa. her attorney to prosecute the above claim; that her residence in No. Meyers street and her Post Office address is Centralia, Columbia county, Pa. Joseph A. Minnich Amanda Greager Levi Miller Also personally appeared Josep A. Minnich, residing at Centralia, Columbia Co. Pa, and Levi Miller residing at Ashland, Schuyl. Co. Penn, persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being by me duly sworn, say that they were present and saw Amanda Greager, the claimant sign her name (make her mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with her that she is the identical person she represents herself to be; and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim, that the claimant is dependent on her manual labor for support, and has no property. D. 1893, and I hereby certify that the contents of the above declaration, &c., were fully made known and explained to the applicant and witnesses before swearing, including the words _____ erased, and the words that the claimant is dependant &c. added; and that I have no interest, direct of indirect in the prosecution of this claim. Gittins Justice of the Peace ================================================================================ APPLICATION FOR ACCRUED PENSION State of Pennsylvania, County of Columbia SS: On this 26th day of August, 1893, personally appeared Amanda Greager, who, being duly sworn, declares that she is the lawful widow of Peter Greager, deceased; that he died on the 14th day of July, 1893; that he had been granted a pension by Certificate No. 479555 which is herewith returned; that he had been paid the pension by the Pension Agent at Phila. up to the 4th day of May, 18??; after which date he had not been employed or paid in the Army, Navy, or Marine service of the United States, except ________; that she was married to the said Peter Greager on the 17th day of March 1867, at Donaldson, in the State of Penn, by Rev. E. S. Henry of Pinegrove, Pa.; that her name before said marriage was Amanda Herter; that she had not been previously married; that her husband had not been previously married; that she hereby makes application for the pension which had accrued on aforesaid certificate to the date of death; and that her residence in No. Troutivine Street, City of Centralia, County of Columbia, State of Penna., and her post office address is Centralia, Col. Co. Pa. Amanda Greager Also personally appeared Joseph A. Minnich residing at Centralia, Pa, and Levi Miller, residing at Ashland, Pa, who, being duly sworn, say they were present and saw Amanda Greager sign her name to the foregoing declaration; and that they know her to be the lawful widow of Peter Greager, who died on the 14th day of July, 1893; and that their means of knowledge that said parties were husband and wife, and that the husband died on said date, are as follows: They have known Peter Greager and his wife, Amanda Greager, since 1865, that is before their marriage, and ever since and were present at the funeral of the said Peter Greager that neither party had been previously married. I further certify that I have no interest, direct of indirect, in the above claim.
