All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Nancy Lorz honeypete@zoominternet.net TO THE HONORABLE THE JUDGES OF THE COURT OF COMMON PLEAS OF CRAWFORD COUNTY: The Petition and declaration of Adam King a free white person, a native of Baden Germany humbly sheweth, That he has resided in the United States for more than three years next preceding his arriving at the age of twenty-one years, and that he has ever since continued to reside therein to the time of making this his application to be admitted a citizen thereof: that he has resided more than five years within the United States including the three years of his minority. The Petitioner also declares, that to the best of his knowledge he was born in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and forty four in Baden Germany whence he migrated more than ten years ago, being then a minor: that he has selected the State of Pennsylvannia as the place of his settlement or residence; and further, that it is his bona fide intention, and has been for more than ten years last past, to become a citizen of the United States and of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in which Commonwealth he has resided more than ten years: that he hath never borne any hereditary title or belonged to any order of nobility and if any such should by means unexpected descend to him, he doth absolutely and entirely renounce the same: That he is now ready and desirous to take the necessary oaths required by the act of Congress in such case made and provided. He therefore prays your honors to admit him to become a citizen of the United States and of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania: and he will ever pray, &c. Adam King X his mark CRAWFORD COUNTY, ss: Adam King being duly sworn in open court according to law, doth depose and say that the facts stated in the foregoing petition are correct and true: that he will support the Constitution of the United States and that of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania: that he doth utterly renounce and forever abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereighty whatever, and particularly to the Grand Duck of Baden of whom he has heretofore been a subject. Boush being duly sworn in open court, depose and say that he has known Adam King the Petitioner, for more that four years last past; that he was a resident of the United States for more than three years prior to his arrival at the age of twenty-one years; and that he has continued to be a resident of the same from three years prior to his arrival at the age of twenty-one until now: that for four years next preceding this date it has been the bona fide intention of said petitioner to become a citizen of the United States; and that since his arrival in the United States he has behaved himself as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same.
