HISTORY OF CUMBERLAND COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA. CHAPTER LVIII. SOUTH MIDDLETON TOWNSHIP AND BOROUGH OF MOUNT HOLLY SPRINGS. 552 BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES: W. F. GARDNER, merchant, P. O. Uriah, was born in South Middleton Township, this county, September 15, 1856, son of Barney and Agnes (Day) Gardner; the former of German origin, born in Adams County, Penn., in 1810, the latter also a native of Pennsylvania, of English lineage. They were married in Adams County, Penn. Barney Gardner, who was a farmer and merchant and successful business man, lived to be seventy years old, his life being mostly spent on the line between Adams and Cumberland Counties. He died in 1880. He was a Democrat politically. His widow still resides in South Middleton Township. He was married, in 1880, to Florence Mortorff, of English origin, and daughter of Israel Mortorff, who was a successful business man. Politically our subject is a Democrat.
