HISTORY OF CUMBERLAND COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA. CHAPTER LVIII. SOUTH MIDDLETON TOWNSHIP AND BOROUGH OF MOUNT HOLLY SPRINGS. 556 BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES: M. H. LINDSAY, farmer and stock-grower, P. O. Carlisle, was born in Cumberland County, Penn., June 23, 1837, son of Alexander and Eliza (Wilt) Lindsay; the former of Scotch and the latter of English origin. Alexander Lindsay, who was a successful business man, died in 1875. The family of Alexander and Eliza Lindsay consisted of ten children, eight of whom grew to manhood and womanhood, and seven are now living. Our subject, the second born, was raised on the farm, in South Middleton Township, this county, and there attended the common schools. Since he reached his majority he has engaged in farming, and is now the owner of the home farm, consisting of something over eighty-two acres. He was married, December 19, 1867, to Miss Elmira, daughter of Jacob Hartman, and to this union were born two children: Rebecca (deceased) and Alice M. Mrs. Lindsay is a member of the Lutheran Church. In politics Mr. Lindsay is a Republican.
