Carlisle, was born in Cumberland County, Penn., December 21, 1835, son of Alexander and Eliza (Wilt) Lindsey, natives of Pennsylvania and of Scotch descent. They reared a family of ten children, eight of whom grew to manhood and womanhood, and seven are now living. Our subject, the eldest, was reared on the farm, received his education in the common schools in South Middleton Township, and has made farming his business in life. His father, who was a successful farmer, died in 1875. He was married in 1883, to Mary Bell, daughter of Solomon Dewalt, a prominent farmer of this township. The union of Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey has been blessed with one child: Bessie Wilt. Mrs. Lindsey is a member of the German Reformed Church. Politically Mr. Lindsey is a Republican.
