Middle Spring, was born in Southampton Township, Cumberland Co., Penn., December 19, 1823, son of John and Sarah A. (Duncan) McCune, natives of Pennsylvania, of Scotch- Irish descent. John McCune was born on the farm where his son William D. now resides, which farm was purchased in an early day by John McCune's father, John McCune, our subject's father, was a soldier in the war of 1812, and was a farmer of Southampton Township, this county. William D. McCune, the eldest in a family of nine children, was reared on the farm, received a common school education, and has made farming his business. He is owner of 200 acres of land. In politics he is a Republican. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church, and has been elder and trustee and for many years a teacher in the Sabbath-school.
