Bob Davidson published a booklet in 2000 titled "Cemeteries of Cumberland County". He located all the cemeteries and prepared a map of each township showing the location of each and assigned each a number. That is the number in the right column. Some of the cemeteries have been leveled or moved. The following listings have been compiled from walking transcriptions, obituaries, and office records. Veterans Listings were obtained from two sources in addition to information already shown on tombstones. The first is the result of a Works Progress Administration document compiled during the Great Depression. The resulting book is housed at the Cumberland County Historical Society and shows the military burials in Cumberland County from the Revolutionary War through World War I. The second source is found in the military burials card file at the Cumberland County Office of Veteran's Affairs, and other sources as they have been discovered. All sources are noted where appropriate. PENN TWP. People were buried as they died, the first row being closest to the church. Therefore, individual members of families might be widely separated from one another. In 1922, the then pastor, Rev. Samuel A. Garnes created an endowment fund for keeping the Old Graveyard in order. The Association dissolved in the spring of 1940, reconstituted itself as the Centerville Memorial Park, Inc. with seven directors, reissued stock and continued in business until August 20, 1961 when the cemetery was given to the congregation. The tombstones were given a thorough cleaning during the summer of 1994 and re-dedicated as part of the 175th anniversary of the church. The original transcription was done by Jeremiah Zeamer on 13 Oct 1905. Betty Carson resurveyed the cemetery on 28 March 2003. The Centerville Memorial Cemetery was founded in 1897 and a few of the ones listed here belong up in that cemetery. They are designated with [upper]. GPS location, North 40 05.966; West 77 19.392 The cemetery was surveyed on 6 May 2003, by Betty Carson. Additions since then from obituaries in Carlisle Sentinel The earliest record of this cemetery is 1873, established on land donated by the Cockley family. Originally, there was a committee of Brushtown men who were responsible for the care and upkeep of the cemetery. As they grew old, the cemetery fell into disrepair. Then, in 1901, the committee was revived. The cemetery was cleaned up and a new fence was installed. Unfortunately, after a few years, the cemetery was again neglected. Eventually, the First Church of God assumed responsibility for the cleanup and maintenance of the cemetery. At this time, any remaining plots are reserved for members of the congregation. It was a Civil War African-American cemetery that had been abandoned, however, township resident Beau Lloyd has adopted the cemetery restoration as his Eagle Scout project. The cemetery is so named because it is located behind what was the Williamson Store on Pine Road. The stones are gone, only one base remains. The ground was probed and three burials were found. Veterans Grave Registrations records list the following three burials in the Huntsdale (Colored) cemetery. These names are also listed on a stone in the Irishtown Cemetery. There is some question about which cemetery is correct. Anderson, William, d. 9 Oct 1886; Cpl, Massachusetts Voluntary Infantry, Co. H, 54th Regt.
