  Andrew Carothers was born in Dickinson Tp, Cumberland Co, Pa on Dec 2, 1840.  
  where he resided until 1851 when he removed to Henderson Co, Ills with his 
  parents. Entered Monmouth College at Monmouth, Ill in 1860 where he continued 
  until 1862 when he volunteered in the Civil War in 83d Reg of Ills Vol Co F, 
  was mustered out in 1865 in Feby 1866 settled Brown Co, Kansas where he was 
  elected County Supt of Schools in 1876 & re elected in 1878.  Their 7 last 
  children all seem to have been born in Hiawatha Kan.
