Margaret White walked up here, just around the corner & introduced me to her Uncle Ralph who we found in the garden. He has the map shaped book "Maclays of Lurgan" which I think I have at home. He also has a little book in which his father's Uncle Charley Maclay had copied from the Middle Spring Church records a list of all the marriages by Rev Moodey who was a pastor there for 51 yrs giving also baptism & other family data. He is loaning me this book to take to my room & copy what I want & return. He has also an old day book of his great grandfather David McClay whose father John Maclay of Carpenters Hall was a brother of the two U.S. senators William & Samuel. David Maclay's second wife was Eleanor Herron, sister of Rev Dr Francis Herron of Pittsburgh & a record of his children are given in the Maclays of Lurgan above referred to. His son John married Margaret Hemphill, daughter of James Hemphill & Cynthia Jack, see also said book. He had but two children: 1. Jane Ellen Maclay born 1837 & died 1882. She married Oct 23, 1876 Thomas Sharpe of Newville, Pa who was a Civil War soldier who is buried in the Big Spring g.y although he was a U.P. She died, without issue, 3 yrs before he did & is buried in the upper g.y. at Middle Spring beside her brother. Ralph's father & her father & mother are both buried there. There too if buried Dr Chas Templeton Maclay, the man who copied the records above referred to, also a son of David Maclay & his 2d wife Eleanor Herron. His first wife was a Frazer who Ralph thinks was related to the Thompson & his 2d wife was a Mahon. Dr Thompson was Shff of Cumb Co about the `70s & was of the family related to the Frazer. His, Dr Chas T's 2d wife had a brother Thompson Frazer who lived in Mo & Ralph says that Dr Joseph P. Maclay, practicing in Chambersburg, son of Dr David Maclay who was son of Dr Chas T. will, he thinks, be able to give me much information about his Maclays & of the Thompsons related to the Frazers. 2. White, Atty at Law Box 325 Borger, Texas who writes me through his Aunt Miss Rose Jane White, Shippensburg, Pa who I visited on Aug 6, 1926 as Miss Jennie White. He asks about his Jack & Thompson connection. He had also been corresponding with Hon W.H. Jack Sr of Corsicana Texas who sent him some information I had sent him June 22, 1927. He says he is a member of the Penna Scotch Irish Soc & was elected to the 41st Legislature in the 124th dist in Texas but resigned about a year ago & is aspiring to Congress. He gives two of his lines as given in his S.A.R. papers. First 1. Son of John Thompson White b Apr 30, 1862 ob Feby 14, 1928 & his wife Margaret Hemphill Maclay b Jany 14, 1870 ob Sept 12, 1912 2.
