Edward Ashwell, Shippensburg Constable, Fires Bullet Into His Brain - Strong Revival Supporter Special to the Inquirer. CARLISLE, Pa., April 5 - The body of J. Edward Ashwell, an East ward constable at Shippensburg, Cumberland county, was found today at his home. Ashwell's hand held a revolver and a bullet home causing his death appeared behind his right ear. Ashwell appeared to be in good health, cheerful and was deeply interested in the Johnson evangelistic meetings at Shippensburg. Saturday evening he had aided in arresting four alleged liquor bootleggers. Ashwell's widow says he was extremely jealous of her without cause and at one time she thought he might kill her.
