On Thursday afternoon, about 4 o'clock, Mr. Robert Mears, who is about 72 years old, and who is well known in this place, went out in the yard to prepare his kindling for morning. After a considerable length of time the folks thought it strange he did not return and commenced investigation. They found him at the woodpile and it appears that be just reached for a stick of wood when he received the first stroke. He was carried into the house and after a time he revived and talked to those who surrounded him and then was stricken a second time and has been unconscious ever since. Everything in the way of medical treatment was done for the old gentleman but to no avail. The attending physicians say be cannot recover. Mr. Mears is an old veteran, having served in the Civil War, and is well known throughout the county.
