Miller, Who Was So Badly Hurt at Carlisle, is Dead. Martin B. Miller, father of Mrs. Joseph Soyster, of this city, a note of whose injury in an accident at a grade crossing in Carlisle appeared in these columns yesterday, died yesterday at his home in that place. >From the Carlisle Herald we take the following: "Mr. Miller was conscious until his departure, and for a brief time last night he was particularly bright and cheerful. He was in his fifty-ninth year and was born near New Enterprise, Bedford County. Later he removed to Roaring Springs and thence to Martinsburg. In 1885 the family took up its residence in Carlisle. Mr. Miller spent the early part of his life at farming and was also engaged in operating a steam thresher. He was the inventor and patentee of a unique and effective well-drilling apparatus. This work commanded his attention for twenty-three years and he was engaged in it up until the time of his death. He was also the inventor of a patent fruit drier. He was a member of the Methodist church, and formerly identified with the I.O.O.F. His first wife died ten years ago and he is survived by his second wife and the following children: Mrs. William Drysdale, Spokane, Washington; Elmer, Greenwood, S.C.; Mrs. J. Soyster, Altoona; George F., Greenwood, D.C.; Mrs. H. W. Shaffer, Portsmouth, Ohio; Edwin B. and Veda, at home; also two stepdaughters, Mary E. and Helen A. Colburn. The funeral will be held from his late residence on Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Altoona Mirror, Tuesday Evening, September 19, 1899
