SPOTTSWOOD CALLED BY DEATH Well-Known Pennsylvania Official Succumbs at Sister's Home in Carlisle H. L. Spottswood, a well known Pennsylvania Railroad company official and for many years a resident of this city, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Ira Cramer, 68 Pomfert street, Carlisle, at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon, of gastritis. He had been in failing health for the past several years and his condition had been serious since last September. Deceased was born at Carlisle on May 25, 1866, and entered the service of the Pennsylvania Railroad company as a telegraph operator on October 17, 1888. He came to this city many years ago and worked in the general superintendent's office. He was later promoted to car clerk and later to chief car clerk and car distributor, and [at] the time of his death held the position of L.C.L. and transportation clerk. He resided for a number of years on Sixth avenue in the vicinity of Thirteenth street, and more recently in the De Lena apartments on Chestnut avenue. He went to Carlisle some months ago in the hope that his health would be benefited. Last December his wife died and since then he grew gradually worse until he passed away. He was of a most jovial disposition and was esteemed and respected by a wide circle of friends. He is survived by two sisters - Mrs. Ira Cramer, of Carlisle, and Mrs. M. Fryckland, of Clymer. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. Interment will be made in Carlisle.
