Will of John Christy of Milford Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, filed October 17, 1781. I, John Christy of Millford Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, being of weak body but sound of mind and memory and calling to mind the uncertainty of life and that it is appointed to all men once to die and as it hath pleased God to bless me with some worldly estate, T do make and ordain this one last will and testament. First of all, I do recommend my soul to the Almighty God who gave it, hoping through the prevailing merits of mediation of Jesus Christ, my Blessed Saviour to be eternally happy and my body to the earth to be decently interred at the direction of my executors. Secondly, I will unto my loving wife, Agnes Christy; the one-third part of all my real and personal estate during her widowhood and after she marries to have no title nor claim to my real estate but to be paid the sum of thirty pounds in lieu or stead of her one-third of the land, to be paid out of the profits of the place yearly, as the rent will allow in grain, wheat, shillings per bushel, rice or corn at three shillings per bushel. My will is that she shall have one cow which she choofes, spinning wheel, her bed and bedclothes with her wearing apparel over and above her one-third, likewise her bedstead. My will is, likewise, that she, my wife shall move off the place as soon as convenient after the vandue. Thirdly, I do will and bequeath to my son David Christy half of the land whereon I now live, the line to run from William Christy's to William Rennyson's line. David to have half of the land next to the Limestone Ridge. My Will is that my side saddle shall be sold and put to interest to benefit and use of my son David when he arrives to the age of 21 years. Forthly, I do will and bequest to my son William Christy, the other half of my plantation whereon my developing house and orchard stands. Likewise their mother's featherbed and bedclothes with hangings in lieu of a hote, siffled from William Drinen. Likewise a cotton coat and wastcoat. My will is that my son William shall be kept at school for two years to have his diet and lodging at W. William Mectures (board) school in Sherman's Valley if agreeable to him. Fifthly, I will and bequeath to my daughter, Sarah Christy, the sum of ten pounds out of my Vandue money for 36 raising her until she is three years old. I likewise will that my sons, David and William, pay my daughter Sarah Christy, the sum of twenty pounds, equally to be paid between them, she being at the age of eighteen years. likewise will her six pewterplates of Beason, with a sugar bowl and conister with spoons. Likewise, one silk gauze apron with one or two caps. I will likewise that my children be schooled at the direction of my executors and do constitute and appoint my loving friend and brother William Christy and John Williams, both of Millford Township, as Executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this 30th day of April in the year of our Lord, 1781.
