Proven 13 October 1778. LAST WILL & TESTAMENT OF RICHARD HOPE In the name of God Amen. That I Richard Hope of Cumberland County Lettorkenny Township State of Pennsylvania being weak in body but of sound memory blessed be to God do this twenty fourth day of August in the yeard of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following that is to say first I commit my soul to God that gave it to me and my body to the dust to be decently buried at the decretion of my executors hereafter named and as for such worldly goods and state which it has pleased God to bless me with in this life I do leave in the following manner and first my will is that all my just debts and funeral changes be paid by my executors and I do will and allow that all my estate both real and personal shall be sold by my executors except what shall be afterwards excepted and willed and the sumes arriving from the same to be divided in manner following amongst my beloved wife and children And first I leave and bequeath to my beloved wife Jenet the sum of two hundred pounds a black mare named Flint a bed and furniture alow her choice and all the dresser furniture with the pots and tea ware except what shall be mentioned to Ann ITEM. I leave and bequeath to daughter Ann the sum of fifty pounds, a black mare named black and her bed and furniture and her chest of drawers the half of the butter plates and half of the spoons the middle sized pot and her saddle ITEM. I leave to my son Thomas the sum of one hundred pounds ITEM. I leave to my son James one hundred pounds and a black year old mare colt. ITEM. I leave and bequeath to my son Adam the sum of one hundred pounds and alow him to be left to a trade if he chus it. ITEM. I leave to my daughter Jean the sum of fifty pounds ITEM. I leave to my son Richard one hundred pounds. ITEM. I leave to my daughter Margaret fifty pounds. ITEM. I leave and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth the sum of fifty pounds and it is my will that the above mentioned sums shall be paid to Jenet Thomas Ann James as they are mentioned as soon as it is to be had and the sums mentioned to the other children to be paid to them as they come to age and if any of the above mentioned legalees dies before they come of age this part shall be equally divided amongst the survivors and if my estate amounts to more than is mentioned it is to be put to intrest and kept for the use and maintenance of the children that is a charge until they are not a charge and then to be equally divided amongst the whole of the legalees in proportion to their part I leave my silver clasps and shoebuckles to my son Richard and my saddle to James and all my clothing to be equally divided amongst Thomas James and Adam I leave to my wife Jenet the walnut chest and poplar table and to Ann the walnut table and I do Constitute and appoint my well beloved wife Jenet and Abraham Smith executors of this my last will and testament and I do tarify and confirm this to be my last will and testament and no other and in witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal the day and year above on the other side written Signed sealed and published and pronounced Richard Hope (SEAL) in the presence of ________________________ John Ferguson Samuel Henery William Morrow Cumberland County: Before me John Creigh registar for the Probate of Wills and granting settors of administration for the county afore mentioned Personally came John Ferguson and William Morrow two of the three subscribing witnesses to the within instrument of writing who being dly sworn according to law deposed and daid that they were personally present and saw and heard Richar Hope the lestator therein named sign seal publish and declare the same as amd for his last will and testment that they subscribed their nam to the same as a witness sworn and subscribed at Carlisle Oct 13th 1778.
