Amen I Patrick McClane of the County of Cumberland Township of Antrim and Province of Pennsylvania Being sick and in a low condition but of Perfect mind and memory and Judgments blessed be God do affirm that this is my last will and Testament and first I commit my soul to God who gave it and my body to the dust to be interred in a decent manner at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named and appointed not doubting but of the General Resurrection I shall Receive the same again by the mighty power of Almighty God and as for such worldly Goods and Estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with I Will and bequeath in manner and form following after my Just debts and funeral charges being first paid I will and bequeath to my well beloved wife Margaret McLane the one full third part of all my personal Estate that Remains after debts and funeral charges are first paid. Her wearing apparel her bed and its furniture and saddle of the thirds aforesaid and further it is my will and I do allow her to have the use of the one third part of this tract of land on which I live containing two hundred acres as it now lies being surveyed by John Cookson during her Natural life and if at any future day she doesn't choose my son Richard to live in mention house with her he is then to provide a house for himself and after all debts & Legacies are paid if she does not choose to have the use of the third of the land but chooses Rather to have money in lieu thereof and in such case it is my Will that he pay to her yearly and every year the sum of ten pounds in lieu thereof I do will and bequeath unto my Eldest Daghter Mary Gass wife of Benjamin Gass the sum of three pounds to buy her a suit of mourning I will and bequath to my son Richard McClane all this plantation on which I live and to his Eldest son at his decease and in case he has no male Issue then to divide it at his decease Equally among his female Issues and in case no Issue to be at his own discretion subject to Dowt (?) and Incumbrances(?) above mentioned I do bequeath to my daughter Jean the sum of fifty pounds and I will and bequeath to my daughter Isabella one hundred pounds and I will and bequeath to my daughter Martha one hundred pounds to be Raised off a certain Tract of Land joining the above mentioned being surveyed by William Lyon containing one hundred and thirty five acres to be sold to the best Advantage and in case its amount do not pay the three last mentioned legacies then in that case my Tract on which I live must make up the deficiency and in case it amount to more the overrpluss to go to my son Richard and I do further will and bequath to my loving wife Margaret McClane the sum of twenty five pounds to be raised of my goods and chattel and I do further Allow and Will but if my Daughter Martha should die under age her bequeathment shall be given all her sister Isabella and I do further will and bequeath to my three grandchildren viz Margaret William and Patrick Gass the sum of ten pounds Each to be paid to them as they arrive at their several ages of maturity and I do nominated and appoint my loving wife Margaret McClane Executrix and my brother John McClane Executor of this my last Testament hereby Revoking and disannulling all former Will and Testaments by me heretofore made constituting this to be my last Will and Testament be it Remembered as touching that Tract of land adjoining John Erwin and the blank Revd. James Lang and others which is now in dispute if gained after the Expences thereon to be Equally divided among my surviving children and I do hereby do constitute my brother James McClane to be as an overseer over my Executrix and Executor and give him full power to see this my last Will and Testament duly executed according to the ___ thereof But further my will is concerning three hundred acres of land bought of Benjamin Gass joining Samuel Porter in York County if gained to be left to the discretion of my Executrix and Executor In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in seal this fourteenth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy six Patrick McLane Seal Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of John Gass William Rule James Elliott Cumberland County Before me John Creigh Register for the Probate of Wills and granting letters of Administration in and for the County afr. personally came John Gass and Wm. Rule two of the three subscribing witnesses to the within instrument of writing who being duly sworn according to law deposed and said they were personally present and saw and heard Patrick McClane the Testator therein named Sign seal publish and declare the same as and for his last Will and Testament that at the doing thereof he was of sound mind and memory that they subscribe their Names to the same as witnesses in the presence of the said Testator at his Request and that they saw James Elliott subscribe his name to the same as a witness. John Gass William Rule Sworn and subscribed at Carlisle Oct 22d 1778 John Creigh Regr. Cumberland County be it remembered that on the 22 day of October AD 1778 the Testament and last Will of Patrick McClane decd. was Legally proved of which the forgoing Record is a true copy and Letters Testamentary ifsued in common form to Margaret McClane and John McClane Executors therein named. Inventory and account to be Exhibited in the time appointed by Law. Witnefsed my hand John Creigh Regr. Additional Comments: Patrick was the son of Daniel McLene who died in Chester Co., Pa in 1769.
