I John Moorhead of Antrim Township in Cumberland County and Province of Pennsylvania being in a sick and low condition of body but of sound mind and memory as usual blessed by God for the same do think proper to make this my last will and testament in writing committing my soul at my dissolution to God who gave it me and my body to the earth to be (illegible) interred at the discretion of my executors, in hopes of receiving it again at the Reformation and what worldly goods I am possessed of I will and bequeath in names following after my just debts and funeral charges are paid Viz: First it is my will and I do hereby order that my executors hereafter named as soon as possible after my decease do sell all my estate both real and personal to the best advantage either by publick sale or otherwise (and they or any one of them shall make a good title to the purchasers and their assigns of my lands) unless what I have given hereby to my legators and to my loving wife Catherine I will and bequeath one hundred pounds Pennsylvania currency to be given hereby my executors out of the first money raised also I give her my little bay mare and the bay mare and colt she brought with her and the two cows that is sisters and whatever furniture of any kind she brought with her also one years maintenance off or on this place after my decease. Item to my son John son James Moorhead I give and bequeath to him and him and his heirs and assigns three hundred acres of land I bought of James Kennedy adjoining my other land the Maryland line & (illegible). Item to my son James Moorhead I give and bequeath the sum of forty pounds money as to be paid him by my executors out of my estate. Item to my son Fergus Moorhead I give and bequeath the sum of five shillings sterling over and above the one half of my plantation I have already given him. Item I give and bequeath to my four daughters (Viz) Jean Bleakley, Hannah Bones, Anne Elmo, and Sarah Nesbit and their heirs and the residue and remainder of my estate both real and personal only what I shall hereafter allow to be given to others to be equally divided amongst them share and share alike to be paid them in equal shares as the money shall come into my executors hands. And it is my will and I do hereby order that if my wife do prove with child either with son or daughter if a son that he shall have two hundred and fifty pounds out of my estate to put to interest for him and kept at interest by my executors or good security until he arrives at twenty one years of age when he shall get the whole principal and interest only what will be necessary to school and educate him to he is fit to go to a trade such as he may choose and if a daughter she shall heir only one hundred pounds to kept at interest for her by my executors to she arrives at eighteen years of age when she shall receive the whole principal and interest. Nevertheless if my wife do prove with child a son or daughter and they shall die before the age hereby assigned them then my will is that the share or part hereby willed to them shall be equally divided amongst my wife and my four daughters aforesaid. And I do hereby order that Fergus Moor the lad that lives with me when he is free shall have five pounds for freedoms and if he stays to help in the grain on the ground at harvest he shall receive five pounds more out of my estate and some of my wearing clothes and I do hereby constitute nominate and appoint my trusty friends James Johnston and William Beatty both of the township aforesaid to be the executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills and testaments by me made in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty first day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and twenty five. Before signing I do hereby allow the remainder of my wearing clothes to be disposed of at the discretion of my wife. Signed sealed pronounced and declared by the testator to be his last will & testament in presence of us who in his presence and at his request have subscribed our names as witnesses. Deputy Register for the Probate of Wills and Granting Letters of Administration Thomas Wallace and John Young who on their solemn oaths depose and say that they were personally present & heard and saw John Moorhead within named sign seal publish pronounce and declare the within instrument of writing as and for his testament and last will and that at his so doing he was of sound & disposing mind and memory as these deponents believe and that they signed their names as witnesses to the same in the presence of the testator at his request and in the presence of each other.
