A program of patriotic and school songs, marches and recitations was enjoyed by a large number of relatives and guests of the school. Miss Kathryn Peters is assistant instructor. The pupils of the school are Earl Sneeringer, William Savage, Edward Smith, Robert McClure, Jane Armour, Betty Mock, Elizabeth Zimmerman, Jack Hepler, Billy Dougherty, Helen Grey, George Hargest and Dottie Jane Troup. Miss Madeline Ritter was hostess for the members of the "Busy Workers" Class at the regular monthly meeting, which was held on Wednesday at her residence, 316 Kelker street. After a brief business session the members enjoyed a musical program. Refreshments were served to the following: Mrs. Slike, Mrs. Marie Greene, Mrs. Sylvia Brubaker, Mrs. Ruth Steele, Mrs. Sara Boyd, Mrs. Mary Hunsicker, Miss Mary Fisher, Miss Marie Carley, Mrs. Ritter, Donald Hunsicker and Bruce Brubaker. The Patience Sewing Club met at the home of Mrs. William Fenstermacher, 328 Hamilton street, Thursday afternoon. Refreshments were served to the following: Mrs. Flora Culp, Mrs. Alcie Culp, Mrs. Blanche Donnelly, Mrs. David Speece, Mrs. Elmer Heckert, Mrs. George Heckert, Mrs. Joseph Evans, Mrs. Harvey Seitz, Mrs. Catherine Mellinger, Mrs. Harry Fenstermacher, Mrs. William Fenstermacher, Mrs. John Gardner and Miss Lena Seitz. Elizabeth Reinoehl Spera, manager of Keeney's flower store, this city, will leave Saturday for her home in Lancaster where she will manage the store of B. F. Barr. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Wilson, 525 Maclay street, have received word of the safe arrival overseas of their son, Charles O. D. Wilson, who enlisted June 16, in Truck Company, 103d Supply Train, 28th Division. Mrs. Edward Green and her sons, Edward Green, Jr., and Waldo Green, of Huntingdon, are the guests of Mrs. Green's father, W. W. Wittenmyer, 2125 North Front street. Miss Persis Holden, of Bennington, Vt., and Miss Barbara Van Vilet, of Plainfield, N. J., are the guests of Miss Jean Chamberlain, 323 North Front street. Miss Caroline Holstein, 126 Verbeke street, has received word of the safe arrival overseas of Corporal Joe Beidelman, Company A, 103rd Division Supply Train, Keystone Division. Prior to his departure Corporal Beidelman was stationed at Camp Hancock. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy S. Wolfe, of Buffalo, N. Y., announce the birth of a son, Leroy S. Wolfe, Jr., June 11. Mr. Wolfe is the son of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy J. Wolfe, 2149 North Second street. Corporal and Mrs. Harry B. Chubb announce the birth of a daughter, Genevea Virginia, Friday, June 7. Corporal Chubb is now serving with the 8th Division somewhere in France. Mrs. Chubb was formerly Miss Helen Enney, of Steelton. Mr. and Mrs. John Dougherty, Sixth and Forrest streets, announce the birth of a daughter, Gertrude Genevieve, Thursday, May 30. Mrs. Dougherty, prior to her marriage, was Miss Gertrude Carrol. RESCUED FROM DROWNING Frederick Brenneman, an 8-year-old colored boy, living at 1232 North Eleventh street, was saved from drowning off Independence Island yesterday afternoon by Norris Shue, a helper on a coal flat. The boy was wading and got beyond his depth. CONVICTED ON SERIOUS CHARGE R. M. Hague was convicted in criminal court this morning on a serious charge and was fined $75 and directed to pay the costs. Margaret Bissinger who was convicted on a charge of shoplifting was paroled in the custody of Mrs. Elsie V. Middleton. INDICTED IN MURDER CASE Hardy Dickerson was indicted this morning by the Grand Jury for the murder of Albert Leitzer on May 18, last. It is not likely Dickerson will be tried at this session. Social William R. Stouffer, 625 Harris street, who recently enlisted for special training at the school in Erie, was the honor guest at a beautifully appointed dinner given last evening at the residence of Mrs. Charles E. Schaup, 32 South Seventeenth street. . . . The guests included Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Schaup, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rouse, Miss Viola Murray, Miss Peggie G. Scott, Miss Carolyn Spencer, Trenton, N.J., William Stouffer, E. Allen, Baltimore, and C. C. Cherry, Edward Braiden, and H. C. Campbell, Philadelphia. Miss Murray has enlisted for foreign service as a Red Cross nurse. . . . John E. L. Daniel, son of the Rev. L. L. Daniel, Brooklyn, N.Y., is visiting at the home of his grandparent, J. E. Daniel, 1424 North second street. Cases Against Woman Being Rushed to Trial When court adjourned at noon today the District Attorney said he expected to go to trial this afternoon with the cases against Tillie Dale, 1006 North Seventh street, and Emma Eichelberger, 1531 Wallace street, who are held on charges of selling liquor without a license and conducting disorderly houses. The women were arrested yesterday by County Detective Walters on information obtained when Harry J. Kennedy was tried and convicted on a charge of stealing $200 from the American Express Company. They were given a preliminary hearing before Alderman Murray this morning and within the next half hour they were indicted by the grand jury. Historical Society is Forty-nine Years Old The Dauphin County Historical Society held its forty-ninth anniversary celebration in the headquarters 9 South Second street, last evening. "Some Phases in the Evolution of Prussian Frightfulness" by the Rev. Dr. George Preston Mains, and a paper on the founders of the Historical Society of Dauphin County, were read. President Klein was unable to be present at the meeting and his address was read by his wife. First vice president Abraham Fortenbaugh presided. Current events of Pennsylvania were given by Mrs. Mabel Cronise Jones. The following gifts were announced: A picture of the Old Derry Church from James McCormick, Jr.; View of Brooklyn in 1816, from Mrs. Rebecca Rettew; coins from Dr. George Gorgas; and an old piece of script from J. D. Lawton. The society adjourned to meet the first week of September. New Messiah Church to Be Dedicated Sunday After being two years in the course of construction the new Messiah Lutheran Church, Sixth and Forster streets, has been completed and will be formally opened with dedicatory services from Sunday, June 16, until Sunday, June 23. . . . Two Brothers in Army F. C. KREBS AND WILLIAM P. KREBS [photo] Mrs. George Krebs, of Lucknow, has two sons in the service and one of them, F. C. Krebs, an artilleryman, is now in France. The other son, William P., is at Camp Laurel, Md., in the medical department. Both write home that they are enjoying the army life. HURT IN AUTO ACCIDENT Hearn Turner, 22 years old, 1519 South Cameron street, is in the Harrisburg Hospital with a badly injured back, as the result of an automobile accident last evening. Turner was struck by an automobile driven by Andrew Green, 329 Pine street, Steelton, in front of the Elliott-Fisher Typewriter Works. The auto is owned by Mrs. S. S. Couffer, of Steelton, who employs Green as a chauffer. CHARLES E. MALEY Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Maley, 437 South Tenth street, have been notified of the safe arrival in France of their son, Charles E. Maley, a member of Field Hospital corps No. 111, 28th Division. Young Maley was formerly employed at the Elliott-Fisher works and was a member of the Hope Fire Company. West Shore, Cumberland Valley and Central Pennsylvania News GRADUATION AT CARLISLE HIGH CARLISLE, June 14. - Professor Leon Printz, of Dickinson College, delivered a lecture on "Square Pegs in Round Holes" to the graduating Class of the Carlisle High School at the fifth annual commencement exercises last evening in the Carlisle Opera House. Diplomas were presented to the largest class that has yet completed the High School course here. Seventy-seven young man and women were graduated. Miss Mary E. Noaker won first honors and Elizabeth A. Diller was second. Clarence Weigle, a student of Findlay College, is spending his vacation with his cousin, Mrs. C. H. Heiges, at the Church of God parsonage. Garver, a member of the 184th Areo Squadron of the United States Army, and who is stationed at the Johns Hopkins University, at Baltimore, arrived in the borough and will spend several days as the guest of his mother, Mrs. Clarissa Davis, and aunt, Miss Sarah Davis, on South Union street. Private Eckert Schaeffer, who has been stationed at Camp Grant, Ill., for the past several months, is spending a ten-day furlough in the borough as the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schaeffer, on North Union street. PERSONAL MENTION Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Schreiner, of East Emaus street, spent yesterday at Harrisburg, where they were the guests of their daughter, Mrs. Harvey C. Lindemuth and husband, North Eighteenth street. Mrs. John E. Myers, of Scranton, is spending some time in the borough as the guest of her sister, Mrs. George Ettele and family, on West Main street. Mrs. Myers has received word that her nephew, Clifford M. Woodsides, has received a commission as a lieutenant. Lieutenant Woodsides was formerly from this borough, and resided on North Union street. He is stationed at Camp Gordon, Augusta, Ga. Mrs. Susan Brubaker, of Pomona, Cal., arrived in town and is spending some time as the guest of her sister, Mrs. Annie Parsons, on Susquehanna street. Mrs. Brubaker came East to attend the United Brethren convention at Hershey. Mr. and Mrs. John C. Beachler, of North Union street, left for Hanover, at which place the former will attend the annual reunion of the Ninth Pennsylvania Volunteers, of the United States Army. Mr. Beachler, of North Union street, and Mr. Terley, of Market street, are the only survivors of the regiment in the borough. Hummelstown News; Many Visitors in Town HUMMELSTOWN, June 14. - The Rev. Harry Hartranft, formerly of town, pastor of a Presbyterian church at Bend, Oregon, for the last ten years, will deliver an illustrated lecture in the Methodist church tomorrow evening. The Rev. and Mrs. Elmer G. Leinbach, of Schuylkill Haven, were guests of the Rev. and Mrs. Arthur R. King on Wednesday. Mrs. Edward Hammer, of Minersville, is visiting her mother, Mrs. U. R. Shaeffer. James Shull, of New Bloomfield spent Wednesday with his brother, Dr. W. M. Shull, who has been ill for the last several days. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Gates have returned to Indianapolis, Ind., after spending several days with Mrs. Gates' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McCall. 13 Colored Men Leave for Camp Next Friday Following the orders received yesterday from the National Draft Board, local Board No. 1 of Dauphin County, Steelton, announced this morning the names of the thirteen colored men who will leave the borough Friday morning, June 21, for Camp Sherman. They are: Andrew Brown 215 North Second street, Steelton; George Andrews, Railroad Camp, Royalton; Raper Pritchett, 213 North Harrisburg street, Steelton; Charles Letcher, 105 Adams street, Steelton; Joseph Grant, C. and L. Roundhouse, Lebanon; Joshua Parker, 133 Adams street, Steelton; David D. Cowhard, 126 Ridge street, Steelton; Olden Jetter, 478 Myers street, Steelton; James M. ARMY CASUALTY LIST NAMES 119 Two Pennsylvanians in Pershing Report Given Out Today WASHINGTON, June 14. - One hundred and nineteen casualties in the American expeditionary forces were announced by the War Department today, divided as follows: Twenty-nine killed in action, five died of wounds, six from disease, three from accident, seventy wounded severely, or wounded, degree undetermined and five missing in action. The officers on the list in the Army were: Captain Frank W. Hulett, Lewistown, Me., and Lieutenants Ernest Francis Sexton, Darien, Conn., and George Stein, New York, killed in action. Lieutenant George C. Muscio, Waterbury, Conn., wounded severely. Lieutenant Charles W. Maxon, Baltimore, Md., previously reported as missing in action, is now reported as a prisoner. SUTCH [photo] The many friends of Oscar L. Sutch, a graduate of Tech High in the class of '17, will be pleased to hear of his safe arrival in France. "Pete" enlisted in the Governor's Troop under the command of Captain Roberts, and was sent to Camp Hancock early last summer. Later the troop was disbanded and he was then transferred to Battery E. of the 108th field Artillery. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sutch, 1415 Shoop street. He was the best distance runner Tech has had for years, having established a record in the mile run in 1916. WOUNDED IN ACTION YORK, June 14. - Mr. and Mrs. John S. Eckert, of Felton, this county, have received word that their son, John T. Eckert, was seriously wounded in action May 28.
