The telegram received here read as follows: "Deeply regret to inform you that it is officially reported that Private LeRoy S. Clouser, Engineers, died on August 7 from wounds received in action." Private Clouser was one of the first men selected from this borough as a member of the new National Army, leaving town on September 18, 1917, for Camp Meade, Maryland, at which place he was in training for a period of two weeks, prior to being transferred to Camp Gordon, Georgia, as a member of the 307th Engineers. Young Clouser was born in Middletown and was the third eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Clouser, who resided at East Middletown. He was a member of the local lodge Brownstone Castle, No. 456, Knights of the Golden Eagle, Poketo Tribe, No. 315, Improved Order of Red Men, and the Union Hose Company, of West Water street. He is survived by his parents, seven brothers and one sister: Harry Clouser, who resides on East Main street; Ervie Clouser, William, Russell, Ralph, Harvey and Clarence, at home; one sister, Mrs. Jacob Gingrich, of Highspire.
