Gilliland, conductor of --?-- 687, a resident of Harrisburg, married and aged about 53 years, was instantly killed in the Juniata classification yards near ND office yesterday afternoon about 1.40 o'clock. Mr. Gilliland was called for 1.30 and had reported to take out his train. His cabin was on one track and he was walking along another, --ing numbers and comparing manifests. A draft of cars had been sent down the track on which he was standing unseen by him and he was struck, knocked down and run over. Death was instantaneous. The body was picked up and later conveyed to the undertaking rooms of J. P. Lafferty, where it was prepared for shipment to Harrisburg. The injuries for the most part were crushes, although his right foot had been cut off. His face was very little disfigured. Coroner McCartney was notified, but on investigating the case decided an inquest was not necessary. He deceased had for many years been in the employ of the company and was prominent in the affairs of the Brotherhood of Railway Conductors. He was well liked by his fellow employes and leaves many friends both here and in Harrisburg. He was a brother of James Gilliland, of this city.
