He was 53 years old. Hughes, who did extensive work in aerial photography for Army map making, had worked for THE PATRIOT and THE EVENING NEWS for nine and one-half years, and in consequence was widely known throughout the Harrisburg area. For a number of years he worked in Philadelphia. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Clara Hughes; his mother, Mrs. Georgia Hughes, Augusta, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. G. Burkett, Royalton, and Ellen, at home; two sons, Samuel, Jr., and Paul, both at home; three sisters: Mrs. D. Dickerson, Knoxville, Ky., and Mrs. Jewel Stapelton and Mrs. Doris Finley, of Augusta, Ga. Funeral services will be held at the Roth funeral home in Middletown on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Harry Mark, pastor of the Royalton United Brethren Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Middletown Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday evening between 7 and 9 o'clock.
