WALLACE IS DEAD AT 80 YEARS THOMAS LAIRD WALLACE [photo] Thomas Laird Wallace, for more than sixty years a prominent resident of Harrisburg, died at his home, 214 Pine street, yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock after an illness of several months. He was 80 years old. Mr. Wallace was a native of Clearfield and early entered the service of the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was transferred from Hollidaysburg to Harrisburg in 1857, to fill an important railroad post made vacant by the resignation of John H. Cameron. Some time after that he was appointed freight agent of the Pennsy but resigned that position to take up the duties of freight solicitor, which position he held until his retirement in 1907. Mr. Wallace was the founder of the Harrisburg Transfer Company. He was a member of the board of directors of the Central Y. M. C. A. and was a conspicuously active member of the Pine Street Presbyterian Church. To the last Mr. Wallace was optimistic. He was beloved by all of his associates in business and other walks of life. The survivors of Mr. Wallace are his wife; three daughters, Miss Helen Bruce Wallace, Mrs. Anne W. McClain and Mrs. Henry Loomis; two sons, Robert B. Wallace and William T. Wallace; one granddaughter, Margaret W. McClain, and one sister, Mrs. S. J. M. McCarrell. The funeral will be held at the home on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Lewis S. Mudge officiating. Burial will be in the Harrisburg Cemetery.
