Wells, well known in this city and retired road foreman of engines on the Pennsy Middle division, died Friday night at 9 o'clock at his home in Harrisburg, following a short illness. Mr. Wells was born on June 11, 1834, in Chester county, and entered the company service on September 1, 1853, as fireman on the Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington railroad. One year later he was promoted to engineman and came to the Middle division in 1857. On April 1, 1862, he became road foreman of engines, with headquarters at Harrisburg. He was retired on July 1, 1904, and was succeeded by the present incumbent, L. C. Clemson. Local officials will attend the funeral at Harrisburg today.
