All Rights Reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ********************************************************* CIVIL WAR: NINETY-SEVENTH REGIMENT REUNION; WEST CHESTER, OCTOBER 1919 - ROBERT "BOB" JOHNSON L - 10 - 27 - 1919 Among those who attended the annual reunion of the 97th REGIMENT, on Saturday, in West Chester, was ROBERT JOHNSON, who although eighty years of age and wounded a couple or three times, walked without a cane, and was as light and active as a man twenty years younger. He has the distinction of having served about 38 years in different arms of the U. S. service, and having been honorably discharged from the regular army by the War Department since President Wilson was elected. He enlisted in the 97th REGIMENT in '61, and went from West Chester with his company and served considerable time. He was later transferred to the cavalry service, and served several years, and also served in Ricketts' Battery. Then he enlisted in the regular army, and then went West to fight the Indians. He was shot in the leg by an Indian and severely wounded "but," said "BOB," as he is familiarly known, "that Indian never lived to tell about it." After his discharge from the army he enlisted in the Marine service, from which he has recently been honorably discharged. He wore many medals, of which he is naturally proud.
