The victim, Richard Crystle, 48, 1014 Elsinore st., was discovered in an area of burned-out brush by members of Upland Fire Co. Russell Hudlow Jr., 16, 20 8th st., Upland, an employe of the seminary, saw an area of high grass burning and telephoned an alarm to firemen at about 2:13 p.m. Jacob Manning, county detective, said the victim apparently was surrounded by flames and attempted to run out of the burning area. His body was found a few feet from the edge of the burned area on property owned by Crozer Hospital. Dr. John T. Bennett, administrator of Crozer Hospital, pronounced the man dead at the scene at 2:37 p.m. The body was removed to the morgue of Deputy Coroner Walter Kanieiski. Last night relatives were contacted by Capt. frank Berridge, Upland police. Positive identification was made by William H. Webb, 951 Johnson st., a friend of the family. Police said the area is frequented by stew bums. An employe of the hospital grounds crew told police he saw the man sitting in the weeds and drinking about a half hour before the fire. The fire burned out about a half-acre of a tract of land located between the seminary and the B&O Railroad. This file is located at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/pa/delaware/newspapers/crystle-r.txt
