Among the officers to be elected at the municipal election in February is a successor to Alderman ALLEN, in the Middle ward. If there is any one office holder who is especially fitted to discharge his duties faithfully and well, that one is Alderman ALLEN, and it behooves the Republicans to tender him the compliment of a unanimous nomination and he will receive a triumphant election. He deserves it, is elegantly equipped for the position and ought to be kept in it for a thousand years, if he'll only live that long and will take it. ------------------------- No Paper Monday. There will be no paper Christmas day -- of course not -- as Christmas comes on Sunday, but as the army of brainy men associated with the Times, who daily use their colossal minds to entertain and instruct Chester people, need a little recreation, they will give themselves and the people a rest on Monday. By the way, now is the time to subscribe. ------------------------- Borough of Eddystone. Notice is given that a petition will be presented to the court for the incorporation of the Borough of Eddystone, to take in all between Chester and Darby turnpike on the north, Ridley creek on the west, Delaware river on the south and Crum creek on the east, the whole to contain about 625 acres. ------------------------- Closing the Public Schools. The public schools closed yesterday afternoon for the Christmas vacation and will not reopen until Tuesday morning, January 3. The pupils left their desks with joy depicted on their faces, in anticipation of the fun in store for the next ten days of midwinter vacation. ------------------------- The Infant Industry. The "Media Record" says: On the 19th inst., there were six births in Media and vicinity. Both mothers and children are doing well. Of the number four were girls. This is booming matters for the doctors. ------------------------- Darby Bank. Darby is in danger of having a bank. The Bank of America, of Philadelphia, is considering the propriety of establishing a branch back in the borough, and if it is sustained and proves profitable, a permanent institution will be established.
