Mr. SMITH, who was in his 77th year, was for many years division engineer of the Media Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad. For 23 years, prior to his retirement in 1930, he was engineer of the Philadelphia division of the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad. He was a graduated from Friends Central School and the University of Pennsylvania. He is survived by his widow, ANNA CHEYNEY SMITH, one son, LEWIS CHEYNEY SMITH, and two sisters, REBECCA S. EASBY and HELEN B. S. BRINTON. -------- HENRY CLEMENT SMITH 1 - 13 - 1938 The funeral of HENRY CLEMENT SMITH, son of the late A. LEWIS and REBECCA LEVIS SMITH, was held on Monday afternoon, from his late residence, 412 West State street, Media. Mr. SMITH would have been 76 years old had he lived until February 2. He had been a resident of the County Seat continuously since his parents moved to the borough in 1866. Mr. SMITH died in the house in which he had resided since coming to Media. It was one of those built by the late Judge JOHN MARTIN BROOMALL. As a lad he attended the Friends' Central School, at Fifteenth and Race streets, Philadelphia. Later he entered the University of Pennsylvania, from where he was graduated as a civil engineer. Mr. SMITH was located in the middle West for a short time as a surveyor. He returned home to recuperate after a severe illness. After regaining his health he entered the employ of the old PHILADELPHIA, WILMINGTON and BALTIMORE division of the Pennsylvania Railroad, where he remained until 1903.
