Mrs. Mary A. Wheaton, widow of the late Andrew H. Wheaton, and mother of Chief of Police Louis D. Wheaton, died at ther home Fifth and Welsh streets, quite suddenly about 3.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The deceased was in her seventy-fifth year and has been in declining health for some time, having been suffering with the dropsy. Yesterday she ate her dinner as usual, and about 2.30 o'clock took a drink of buttermilk, after which she sat in her rocking chair and began knitting. In an hour she died without any emotion. Mrs. Wheaton was one of the old residents of this place, having been born in Marcus Hook in 1808. She lived there until her marriage. Then she removed to Chester. For forty years she resided below Third street in the Middle ward, and thrity of these years were spent in one house. She raised a large family, five sons and two daughters, all of whom are well known. She came to Chester to live when there was not much of the town and its inhabitants were principally engaged in boating and fishing. In her younger days she was very active and was well known throughout the city. It is thought that heart disease was the fatal malady. The funeral will take place on Tuesday.
