There was a large number of friends and acquaintances present to take a last look at one whom they had held in high esteem in life. The casket was surrounded by floral emblems sent by admiring friends. Rev. Thomas LATIMER conducted the services at the home. He offered prayer and read the Thirty-ninth Psalm, which tells of David’s care, of his thoughts, and of brevity and varity of life. The body was taken to the Union M.E. Church, at Hinkson’s Corner, where the departed had worshipped for the past fifty years. The Church was crowded, many people coming from a distance to hear words of kindness spoken of one who had always been an interested worker in the church. The service was in charge of the pastor, Rev. Thomas LATIMER, who spoke from John 11, 21-26. He spoke of the Christians loyalty to God, and compared the life of the deceased to the good men referred to in the Old Testament. He spoke words of comfort to the family. Mr. LATIMER was assisted by Rev. E. F. HOFFMAN, of Doylestown M.E. Church; Rev. Robert C. WELLS of the M.E. Church at Llanarch; Edward W. GILL of Lima M.E. Church, and Rev. Nathaniel TURNER, who preached at Union Church over thirty years ago. All spoke of the many fine traits of character of the Christian life led and of how Mr. WHITAKER was always ready to assist the needy. The Choir, which was composed of some who sang at Old Union several years ago, rendered favorite hymns of Mr. WHITAKER. They were “Higher Ground”, “Saved by Grace”, “Nearer, My God to Thee”, and “Asleep in Jesus”. The body was borne to its last resting place in the Union M.E. burial ground by the grandsons: Charles E. SMITH, Joshua Whitaker SMITH, Isaac S. HABBERSETT, Charles HABBERSETT, George A. WHITAKER and J. Clarence BONSALL.
