His father was Henry Allen and his mother was Elizabeth Hazelton the ancestry being of Scotish descent tracable to the days of Wallace and Bruce. The deceased came to this region when a young man, and on September 10, 1854 married Orlinda Amelia, daughter of Arnold Bliss and Freelove Lucore and granddaughter of John Bliss the pioneer of the upper Bennets Branch Valley. The young people began housekeeping on what is now the L B Lucore farm on Mount Pleasant. In 1853 Mr. Allen bought 100 acres where is now the A B Spotts farm and lived there until 1865 when the property was sold to Hiram Woodward and the family moved to Linn County, Iowa, but constantly ill from fever and ague they moved back to the Pine Forests of Pa., in Oct. 1865. For the next six years he lumbered and then settled in South Kersey Elk Co. living there until 1890 when they moved to Penfield living here until the death of his wife on April 26, 1895, after which the home was not regularly maintained, Mr. Allen living among his children, being with his daughter Mrs. Adam Wheeler, at the time of his death. The deceased was of refined, intelligent and gentlemanly disposition. To hear him tell of the incidents and adventures of his life was pleasurable and profitable. Years ago he united with the Advent Church, but in later years was not a member of any church holding that this was not vital to getting to Heaven. His death was due to Malarial fever and the weakness of multiple years. He was fully ready to depart. The funeral was held at the Mount Zion Church Sunday November 18th.
