Born on a farm near Emporium 1-26-32. He was 73 yrs. old. His parents moved from Mass to Penn. and established a farm. Mr. Lucore got an education as best he could and prepared for teaching. Taught school half century ago in Fox twp. and there he met and married Sarah S, Horning, who was a sister to Mrs Elizabeth Earley. They were marred 42 years ago and for 3 years prior to his marriage Mr. Lucore had been studying medicine at Earleyville with late Dr C.R, Earley. He never practiced medicine but later took to the law. Mrs. Lucore's parents moved to Sunbury after their marriage and the Lucore's went with them, remaining there 3 years with Mr. Lucore teaching at that place. Later they returned to Fox twp where Mrs Horning died and the Lucores moved to Ridgway. A residence was built for them at 322 South St, Ridgway and that was his home until 4 years ago, when the house burned down. Mrs. Lucore had died some seven years before. He decided not to rebuild but took a room and boarded at the Ross House, where he made his home until his death. Owing to an accident Mr. Lucore had been a cripple for 30 years. The injury came from a fall he received one night from the porch of the old Masonic Temple Bldg. that stood at the bend of Main St. for a quarter of a century he was able to get around with the aid of two canes, but some 3 years ago hr broke his thigh and had to use a wheel chair and walked around his office with the aid of a chair. Mr. Lucore served 8 years as county superintendent of schools. The first superintendent was Wm S. Gillis in 1854. After serving less than a year Mr. Gillis resigned and the late Dr Earley was appointed to fill out the unexpired term. Dr Earley was then elected to a full term in 1857 and again in 1860. He resigned in 1861 to go to war and Mr. Lucore served his unexpired term. He served until 1875 when Geo R. Dixon was elected to the office. Mr. Lucore was admitted to the bar of Elk Co. in April, 1867. He practiced law for some years until his crippled condition interfered. In 1889 he was elected Justice of the Peace, serving in that office until death. Burial in Pine Grove. From Harry Largey, Bogart Hotel, Ridgway, Pa.
