FRANCIS CEMETERY Franklin Twp, Erie Co, PA This cemetery, operated by the Francis Cemetery Association, is located on the east side of Gudgeonville Road, about half way between Francis Road and Clair Wright Road. The first marked burial took place in 1831. On 5 Oct 1857, Ira Cole & Lydia Cole, his wife, conveyed for $25 to Alvin Francis, Charles Wright & Henry Van Buskirk a piece of land bounded on the north by Stephen Francis land, on on the east and south by Hubbard Wheeler's land, and on the west by the school house lot, in the Cole neighborhood, about 3/4 of an acre for a cemetery and burying ground. (The old section of the cemetery.) On 29 July 1896, Mary R. Wheeler & Truman L. Wheeler of Franklin Twp. deeded to the Trustees of Francis Cemetery for a $45, a piece of property bounded on the south by the cemetery for 17 rods, on the east by Nelson Francis for 48 feet, on the north by Truman Wheeler for 17 rods, and on the west by Truman Wheeler for 48 feet. (The new section of the cemetery. On 7 November 1957, the School District of the Township of Franklin deeded to Francis Cemetery Association for $520, a piece of property bounded on the south by George Buren for 110 ft, on the east by the cemetery for 180 ft, on the north by George Felege for 110 ft, and on the west by the road for 180 ft. (The old school house lot, not yet developed for burials.) The cemetery was read in two section, Old and New. Each section was read in rows from south to north, starting with the row closest to the road. The cemetery was read 25 March 1981 by Kathy Hauser.
