Robert McCray, was a descendant of James McCray who was an early settler of Erie Co., Pennsylvania. In 1845 the church had been completed and the first services held in September of that year. All of the original records for the church and cemetery were destroyed about 1920, when the home of Glenn McCray caught on fire. In 1952 Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Durham made an index of this cemetery, and it was a good thing they did, because names and dates on their list can no longer be found in the cemetery today. Current Survey: The following survey of the McCray Cemetery was conducted from October 4, through October 8th, 1991 by the compiler. Any questions, comments or suggestions are welcome. Dennis R. Davis 3662 Alameda Drive Fairview, PA 16415-1030 e-mail R8459@aol.com Directions To Cemetery: McCray Cemetery is located on the East side of Route 89, two miles South of Route 6N and the Route 89 intersection, between Stewart and Nancy Hill Roads, not far from the small village of Elgin. The Cemetery surrounds the church there. Durham List Of 1952: The following list of burials were found in 1952 and for one reason or another can no longer be seen or found today. Every effort was made to correctly read each and every stone in this cemetery. There were seventeen tombstones found that were completely unreadable. Some or all of them may appear as tombstones from the Durham list of 1952. It is very probable that there are more graves here than what are accounted for. I would like to be informed if others have knowledge of additional burials. Feel free to contact me concerning any of the above. Dennis R. Davis (Rusty)
