New Castle County, Delaware: August 10, 1962. "Alexis I. DuPont Teacher's Rites Set Tomorrow Requiem mass for Milow R. Howard, 46 year old teacher, will be offered tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. in St. John's Catholic Church, Hockessin, [Delaware, USA]. Mr. Howard, who apparently drowned in his outdoor pool, was the husband of Mrs. Elizabeth [Emma Neuer] Howard. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Ashland, [Delaware]. Friends may call at the Doherty Brothers Funeral Home, 1900 Delaware Ave., this evening after 7. The body of Mr. Howard was found Wednesday night about 9:30 at the bottom of the new outdoor swimming pool at his home in Hockessin Hills, [Hockessin, Delaware]. Coronoer William J. Doherty said yesterday a final determination of the cause of death will have to await the outcome of blood tests made after an autopsy performed yesterday. When Mrs. Howard found her husband's body, state police said, he was wearing swimming trunks. They also said Mrs. Howard told them her husband was not a strong swimmer. Mr. Howard had headed the business education department of Alexis I. duPont School, Kennett Pike. He came here in 1955 from the faculty of Davis Business College, Toledo, [Lucas County], Ohio. Dr. Thomas W. Howie, superintendent of the district, expressing shock at Howard's death, described him as a "superior teacher whose death is a tremendous loss to the school." Mr. Howard spend his youth and early professional life in Ohio. He received a B. A. degree from Bowling Green Univeristy in 1938,and after six years of high school teaching in Ohio and three years service with the Army Air Corps during World War II, he returned to the university to get his master of arts degree in 1948. Mr. Howard remained at Bowling Green until 1950 to teach business administration. He was later head of the business education department at Tiffin University, Tiffin, Ohio, leaving there for Davis College. The Howards had no children. Surviving, in addition to his widow, are his father, H. H. Howard, of Mount Blanchard, Ohio; six brothers, Miller, Marvin, Marlowe, Merlin and two others, whose names were not recalled here, all of Mount Blanchard; and a sister, Mrs. Helen Dippery, of Sandusky, Ohio."
