DUNBAR TWP This cemetery is about 1/ 2 mile down Race Path Road (see other post for directions) setting out in the middle of a field. It has been called the "Ball Cemetery." It is grown up with large trees and brush. Grounhogs have dug under the stones and caused most to fall over. I understand over the years some have been buried by the landowners, as they cleared more land. Some are sandstone and hard to read. These are what I could read. Rachel J. dau. of J. & S. Dennis died April 21, 1882 in the 18th year of her age (one stone) Robert M. died Oct. 3, 1865 aged 3 y 1 m John E. aged 1 y 7 m children of Samuel & Mary Ball Richard Ball died Jan. 19, 1811 aged 26 years 9 months 16 days Rachel Joanna Ball died May 1, 1811 age 57 years Mary Ball died Dec. 5 th 1830 in the 76th year of her age (one large stone) Nancy wife of William Ball born May 29, 1807 died Jan. 12, 1878 William Ball Born May 6, 1811 died Nov 28, 1876 (one stone, can not see surname) Samuel Feb 10, 1833 Aug. 8, 1902 Mary Aug 25, 1833 no D. D. (one Square high stone on ground, can see only 3 sides) Side 1 Infant son of Wm. & Eliza Dennis Side 2 Eliza wife of Wm Dennis died Oct 27, 1899. in the 33rd year of her age (William might be on other side but I coulden't roll it over) One stone marked Infant. ############################## WILLIAM BRYNER STONE---------DUNBAR TWP. To find it, start in town of Dunbar, take road toward Ohiopyle. Go 3 miles turn right on State Gameland road, continue to about 1 mile to end of road, park in far end of parking lot. Walk up road at corner of lot. After crossing bridge go on road to right to far end of field at top of hill. Stone is about 50 yards in woods on right. This is about a mile and a half one way walk. BRYNER William 1837 - 1919 Co. F 14th Pa Cav. GAR and Cuban War flag holders. Was told William served in both Civil War and Cuban War. He is said to have ridden with Teddy Roosevelt in Cuba. He would have been 61 years old ? ############################## COLLINS CEMETERY, DUNBAR TWP. I spent some of this spring day checking out a old family cemetery that I had found about 20 years ago while hunting. It is located on the river hill overlooking the Yough. Off Rt. 201 near Vanderbilt. The cemertery is about 30 feet square and has 3 foot stone wall arround it. There are about 10-15 stones, but most are sandstone and cannot be read. D. & A Collins Aug 13, 1853--Oct 9, 1854 Ehline Collins Mar. 5, 1822--May 27, 1834 These are about 6 other small stones, probably children, that can not be read. ############################## DICKERSON CEMETERY, EAST LIBERTY, DUNBAR TWP. To find it take RT 201 out of Connellsville, Pa towards Vanderbilt. As you get to Vanderbilt, 201 makes a sharp left at a intersection with Rt 819, turn right toward DAWSON. Go 2/10 mile the road makes a sharp left, turn RIGHT on the street on turn. There is a house setting back from the street on the right side The cemetery is behind and a little to the left. If you pull in the drive and ask they will give permission to look at cem. Ellis has a lot of info. on Joshua His stone reads In Memory of Joshua Dickerson who departed this life Oct. 10, 1827 in his 88th year Joshua Dickerson departed this life Oct. 1, 1834 in his 22nd year Samuel Dickerson departed this life Oct. 22 1828 in his 4th year One stone broken can read Mc Burney on top below Sarah in 39th year Maria W. dau. of J.&S. died 1-18-1857 age 16 Eliza Jane wife of ? can't read age 25 years In memory of Elanor Dougan consort of Robert Dougan who departed this life July 1, 1838 aged 23 years 6 mo. her first son Thomas Dougan is interred on the left. This stone is badly weathered as near as I can see it reads Henry Dickerson June 17, 1827 age 50 years All that can be read on this stone is Samuel --- ############################## DICKERSON RUN HILL CEMETERY-------------------DUNBAR TWP. To find cemetery take RT 201 from Connellsville to Vanderbilt. As you reach Vanderbilt you will see a sign for Dawson, turn toward Dawson on to RT 819. As you come down a hill to the river turn left before bridge. Just before you come to top of hill turn left on Liberty Av. Cemetery is short distance on left. There is evidence that there are many unmarked graves in this cemetery, several veteran's flag holders (with flags) but only a sunken spot, NO markers, and several illegible stones. There may have been names on panels, but they are now gone. ############################## EAST LIBERTY PRESBYTERIAN CEMETERY in VANDERBILT, DUNBAR TWP, PA This cemetery has many markres that are broken and piled on top of each other. The caretaker is apparantly using rocksalt to kill the grass arround the stones so that he won't have to trim. It does kill the grass BUT causes damage to the stones. There are MANY MANY surnames. To find the cemetery go to Vanderbilt, PA Take RT 201 toward RT 51. The Church and cemetery are just before you make the last turn leaving Vanderbilt on the right.
