SOUTH UNION TWP. This cemetery is one of the few all Negro Cemeteries in the country, as told by the lady who lives next to it. They cut weeds to most of readable stones. She also said some stones were pushed over and buried several years ago. She said it is known as the UNIONDALE CEM. The Cem. is overgrown with large trees and briars. I had found one stone 10 feet off the road sometime ago. I was told later that there were more back in woods So I went to look. To Get there take RT 119 South to Morgantown Rd. Turn right. You will see woods on left across the road from Laurel Highlands Nursery. Go to edge of woods. Look along right side of woods as you face it. Walk back about 125 yards. Next to road William Ford----(you can only see about 6 inches of stone above weeds now.) At edge of yard in back Lula Henderson 1884--1937 Alice Mandexter 1856--1932 (in woods) Fannie Boyer Oct. 10, 1911 aged 57 years Caroline Woodward July 10, 1916 age 89 years Henry Perkins died May 1, 1889 OF Co. To find it go to Normalville, Turn off RT 711 on to George Prinkey Rd. near the Normalville Church entrance. Continue to the SECOND road to left, Turn left, go 4 tenths mile to top of hill, there will be fields on both sides of road. You will see the foundation of the Brooks home on left. About 75 yards before the foundation you will see a road on right going through field. Cemetery is about 200 yards in field next to this road. It is my understanding that the stones were removed from cemetery at one time and later returned, by the landowner, after people complained. BROOKS Joseph 9-5-1795 - 9-30-1863 husband Dorothy Basinger died 1868 wife Also in memory of the unknowns who lie here ( this is also on stone for Joseph and Dorothy) The stone for Joseph and Dorothy is a modern granite stone Albert 10-7-1842 age 1yr. 2 mths. 7ds. s/o John & Elizabeth Brooks Abraham died June year broken off s/o Jacob & Elizabeth Brooks these stones are of the time period An old weather worn and broken sandstone with the only legible markings Joseph, probably his original stone. ############################## COLLINS FAMILY CEMETERY -- SPRINGFIELD TWP. This Cemetery is rather large, but off the beaten path on a dirt road. I would think that some that are buried here came from poor families as some markers are just slabs of cement with lettering painted on. Some markers are recent and fancy. To get there go to Normalville, PA. Go toward Ohiopyle, just as you leave Normalville you will turn left on RT 653. Go down hill cross bridge and turn left. Go until you come a Y. You will bear right. Shortly you will cross a small bridge. As soon as you cross bridge turn right on to Brown Rd. The road splits as soon as you get on it, take the road to the left. Go until you see a white mobile home on right, turn left on Hillview Rd. When you get to top of hill you will see cemetery on right.
