"The petition of William HAGARTY(HAGERTY) respectfully (showeth/sheweth) that he is an alien and has been residing within the limits & under the jurisdiction of the United States of America between the eighteenth day of June 1798 & the 14th of April 1802 & has continued to reside within the same from that until the present time. That he emigrated from the County of Derry in Ireland (at which place he was born) in the year 1801 & landed at New Castle state of Delaware - that he is forty two or forty three years of age & owed allegiance to the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Ireland & that the place of his intended residence is Fayette County Pennsylvania. He therefore prays that he may be admitted to become a citizen of the said United States & he will (prays?). William HAGERTY" [Historical Aside: The 18 Jun 1798 and 14 Apr 1802 dates are from an act under which this naturalization was authorized.] ------------------------- [For brother] Samuel HAGERTY's naturalization papers don't provide much useful data except for the fact that he was sponsored by William. William was naturalized on 9 Jun 1828 and Samuel was naturalized on 25 Aug 1828.
