Indenture between HEZEKIAH WESTCOAT, grantee and JOHN TIERNAN, grantor. >From Grantee/Grantor Index # 1649; page 114 Written, June 13, 1861; Registered and Compared September 2, 1862. This indenture was made between the parties of grantee HEZEKIAH WESTCOAT, and the administrator JOHN TIERNAN(?), grantor for the estate of deceased party THOMAS TEGGART. The deceased had this land seized and sold at public outcry to satisfy the paying of outstanding debts due against his estate, as administered by JOHN TIERNAN. The property in question lies in Washington Twp., Fayette county, State of Pennsylvania, and consisted of two separate parcels. The description of which states, " undivided 2/3 part of a certain coal lot, and the undivided 1/3 part of the same being the property of JAMES VEECH and DANIEL KAINE, Esquires, containing about fifteen or sixteen acres (described as "coal land") more or less situated on the Monongahela river, generally known as part of the LONDON DERRY property. [Further on in the physical description of the parcel, it states that one boundary is by the maple on the banks of the Monongahela river, and bounded by land presently held by FRANCIS MC KEE,(but heretofore the heirs of MACK DERRY (?) deceased), and the heirs of ANDREW LINN, deceased and others,..." The public outcry or auction resulted in it being , " sold the same to HEZEKIAH WESTCOAT, for the sum of six hundred and fifty dollars, he being the highest and best bidder and that the best price bidden for the same. (The undivided 1/3 part the property of JAMES VEECH and DANIEL KAINE Esquires, being included in said sale.) [ Apparently this 2/3 parcel was sold for the sum of $433.33, and the parcel below, noted as the 1/3 part brought a sale price of $216.67.] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- Indenture between HEZEKIAH WESTCOAT, grantee and R. T. GALLOWAY et ux, grantor >From Grantee/Grantor Index # 1650, Page 43 Written May 30, 1861 Recorded and Compared September 2, 1862 This indenture is for a parcel noted as the "undivided 1/3 part containing five acres and some perches more or less, it being the same premises purchased by the Galloway's at Sheriff's Sale, as the property of SOLOMON DERRY (colored man)" [recorded in the Sheriffs Deed Book in and for Fayette County]. This parcel was located in Washington Township, County of Fayette, and was sold for the consideration of two hundred and sixteen dollars and sixty six and two thirds cents. This amount payable as cash in hand between HEZEKIAH WESTCOAT the purchaser and the sellers R.T. GALLOWAY and ELLEN C. his wife. Boundaries of this tract of land are noted as being on the west by the Monongahela river, north the lands of FRANCIS MC KEE, the south and east by land formerly owned by ANDREW LINN, deceased. ---end---- Karen Souhrada souhrada@netacc.net
