Hebb, and information concerning your brother, James S. Hebb: The records of this office show that one James S. Hebb, age 22 years, was enrolled MAY 20, 1861, at Grafton, Virginia, for a period of three years; was mustered into the service MAY 25, 1861, at Wheeling, Virginia, as a private of Captain Latham's Company, 2nd Regiment, Virginia Foot Volunteers, which subsequently became Company B, 5th Regiment, West Virginia Volunteer Cavalry, and was honorably discharged as a private, January 4, 1864, to enable him to REENLIST as a Veteran Volunteer; reenlisted January 5, 1864 at Martinsburg, West Virginia, for a period of three years as a Veteran Volunteer and private of Company B, 5th Regiment, West Virginia Volunteer Cavalry; was transferred later to Company H, same regiment; was transferred in December 1864, to New Company H, 6th Regiment, West Virginia Volunteer Cavalry, and was honorably discharged as a private to date, June 14, 1865, under the provisions of the Act of Congress approved July 5, 1884. The records also show that a James S. Hebb, Army serial number 6,747,513, reenlisted September 23, 1938, at New York, N.Y., for three years. A report dated September 30, 1939, shows him a private, Detachment, Medical Department, Sternberg General Hospital, Manila, P.I. As the original discharge certificates of soldiers are not prepared in the War Department, copies cannot be furnished. Very truly yours, E.S. Hebb (Civil War vet, my great-great grandfather) is buried in the Percy Methodist Cemetery, North Union Township, Fayette County, PA. The 2nd James S.
